CREATE A PORTABLE PROJECT (TRANSFER OR SHARE A PROJECT)
You can continue working on a project on another computer or share it with Movavi Customer Service if certain requirements are met.

This article explains what to check, how to transfer a project correctly, and how to prepare it if Support asks for it.
Before you start:
Make sure that the Movavi program installed on the other computer is the same version or newer than the one used to create the project.

Important:
  • Projects are upward compatible only.
  • A project created in a newer version cannot be opened in an earlier version.
  • If versions don’t match, the project may fail to open or open incorrectly.
What needs to be transferred
To open a project on another computer, you must transfer both:
  • the project file
  • all media files used in the project (videos, audio, images)

The project file contains information about:
  • the timeline
  • edits
  • effects
  • transitions

It does not contain the actual media files.
How to transfer the project to another computer
  1. Copy the project file to the other computer.
  2. Copy all media files used in the project.
  3. Place the project file and all media files into one folder, such as a folder on your desktop.
  4. Open the project file from that folder.

Keeping everything in one folder helps the program locate the files automatically.
What happens when you open the project
When the project is opened on another computer, the program looks for media files using their original locations.
If the file locations have changed, you may see a message about missing files.

What to do
  • Click Browse
  • Select the folder that contains the media files

Once the correct folder is selected, the program will relink the files automatically.
Important notes for transferring projects
  • Moving, renaming, or deleting media files after adding them to a project can cause missing file issues.

  • Storing all project-related files in one folder makes transferring projects between computers easier and more reliable.
When to contact Movavi Customer Service
Contact Movavi Customer Service if the project does not open correctly after following all steps above.

Include:
  • whether the program version is the same on both computers
  • whether all media files were transferred
  • the message shown when opening the project.
If you need to send the project to Movavi Customer Service
A portable project contains your project file together with all media files used in it.

This allows Movavi Customer Service to open your project exactly as you see it and investigate issues related to:
  • effects
  • transitions
  • media files
  • export errors

Portable projects are created only when requested by Support or when you need to move a project between computers without exporting it.
When you need a portable project
You may be asked to create a portable project if:
  • the issue occurs only in a specific project
  • the problem may be related to source files, effects, or transitions
  • Support needs to reproduce the issue on another computer
How to create a portable project
  1. Open your project in the Movavi program
  2. Go to File → Save Portable Project
  3. Choose a folder where you want to save the portable project
  4. Confirm the action

The program will create a new folder with your project name containing:
  • the project file
  • all media files used in the project
How to prepare the portable project for upload
  1. Locate the folder with your portable project
  2. Right-click the folder and compress it into an archive (ZIP, RAR, or 7z – any standard archive format is fine).

📌 If you don’t have a compression tool installed, you can use the built-in ZIP option on Windows or macOS.
How to upload the portable project
Use the upload link provided by the Movavi Customer Service agent (for example, a pCloud link).

  1. Open the upload link from the Support reply.
  2. Drag and drop the archive into the upload window.
  3. Wait until the upload is fully completed.

Once uploaded, Movavi Customer Service will be able to open your project and analyze the issue.
Important notes for portable projects
  • Portable projects may be large if your project contains many media files.
  • Make sure the upload is complete before sending your reply.
  • Do not modify the project after creating the portable version unless Support asks you to.
