Cannot record microphone audio (Windows)
Windows includes privacy controls that can block access to the microphone for third-party applications. If microphone recording doesn’t work, these settings may need to be adjusted.

Follow the steps below in order.
Step 1: Check microphone privacy settings in Windows
  1. Open Settings from the Start menu
  2. Go to Privacy & security (or Privacy, depending on your Windows version)
  3. Select Microphone
  4. Make sure the following options are enabled:
  • Microphone access for this device
  • Allow apps to access your microphone
5. Scroll down to choose which apps can access your microphone
6. Make sure the Movavi program you are using is allowed

After changing the settings, restart the Movavi program and test recording again.
Step 2: Check the microphone connection
If the microphone is enabled in Windows but still doesn’t work:
  • Test the microphone on another computer, if possible. If you are using a desktop PC, connect the microphone or headset to the rear audio ports.

Front audio ports may sometimes have connection issues.
Step 3: Check program audio settings
If the microphone appears active but no audio is present in the recording:
  1. Open the program settings.
  2. Go to Settings → General.
  3. Disable Capture separate streams.
  4. Apply the changes and record a short test clip again.

This option is mainly for advanced editing. During playback, some media players may switch to a different audio track, which can make the result sound different than expected.

Step 4: Check the formats your microphone supports.
If the microphone doesn’t get selected and you get an error about initialising audio recording:
  1. Right click on your speaker icon
  2. Go to Audio Settings
  3. Pick your microphone

Depending on the OS:
Windows 10:
  1. Go to Device Properties.
  2. Navigate to the Additional Device Properties → Advanced.
  3. Change the format to be 44100 Hz 16 bit, if available. If not, change to 48000 Hz 16 Bit.
  4. Disable audio enhancements in the Advanced tab as well.
  5. Apply changes and restart the program.

Windows 11:
  1. Go to Device Properties.
  2. Change the format of the audio device to be 44100 Hz 16 Bit 2 channels, or 48000 Hz 16 Bit 2 channels.
  3. Disable Audio Enhancements enabled in the Properties.
  4. Apply changes and restart the program.
Additional note
If the recording has multiple audio tracks, your media player may play one without microphone audio by default. If this happens, switch to a different audio track manually in the player.
