Common reasons and solutions
Before changing settings, check the following:
If the issue continues, follow the steps below.
As an additional test, you can try converting the file using
Movavi’s online converter.
If conversion fails there as well, the issue is most likely related to the source file.
If the file is corrupted or partially downloaded, conversion may stop and cause the program to close.
What to do
Case 1: The source file is damaged or incomplete
- restart the program and try converting the file again
- make sure no other resource-intensive applications are running
- Try playing the file from start to finish in the program preview.
- If playback stops, freezes, or skips, the file may be damaged.
- If possible, re-download or re-copy the file from the original source.
Then try converting again.
Some output formats or locations may cause conversion to fail on certain systems.
What to do
Case 2: Output format or location causes a failure
- Change the output format to a different one.
- Set the output folder to a local drive (for example, Desktop or Videos).
- Avoid saving the output to removable or network storage.
If conversion succeeds with acceleration disabled, the issue is likely related to GPU encoding.
In some cases, hardware acceleration may cause the program to shut down during conversion.
What to do
Case 3: Hardware acceleration causes instability
- Open the program settings.
- Disable all enabled hardware acceleration options.
- Restart the program.
- Try converting the file again.
Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers may cause crashes during conversion.
What to do
Case 4: Graphics drivers are outdated or unstable
- Check whether your graphics card drivers are up to date.
- Install updates from the manufacturer’s official website.
- Restart the computer after updating and try converting again.
