About codecs and playback compatibility
Video playback depends on the codec used to encode the file, not only on the file extension.
Different operating systems, devices, and media players support different codecs. There is no single format that works on all systems and devices in every case.

What you can do
Option 1: Use a supported output format
For the widest compatibility, export videos as:
Option 2: Convert the file instead of installing codecs
If a video does not play correctly in your system’s default media player, try converting it to a supported format.
Using third-party codec packs is not required and may cause conflicts with system media components.
Option 3: Use a media player with built-in codecs
Some media players include their own decoders and do not rely on system codecs.
These players may be able to open files that the default OS player cannot.
This does not affect how the file works in Movavi.
For the widest compatibility, export videos as:
- MP4 (H.264 video + AAC audio)

Important notes
- Codec support depends on the operating system and hardware, not only on the program.
- H.265 (HEVC) files may require additional system support on Windows.
If the required HEVC components are not installed, the video may play without sound or may not play at all in some media players.
In this case, try:
- playing the file in a media player with built-in codec support;
- exporting the video as MP4 (H.264 + AAC);
- converting the file to a more widely supported format.
When to contact Movavi Customer Service
Contact Movavi Customer Service if:
- the exported file has no sound after trying the steps above;
- the issue occurs with different projects and output formats.

- a screenshot of the project timeline showing the audio track;
- information about the source media files.
