Program lagging on Windows (integrated vs dedicated GPU)
On Windows laptops, Movavi may run slower if the system uses the integrated graphics card instead of the dedicated (discrete) GPU.

This article explains how to check and switch to the GPU Movavi uses.
Why this happens
Many laptops have two graphics cards:
  • Integrated GPU (usually Intel or AMD)
  • Lower performance, lower power usage.
  • Dedicated GPU (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel ARC)
  • Higher performance, used for graphics-intensive tasks like video editing.

Windows may automatically choose the integrated GPU to save power, especially:
  • on battery power
  • on corporate or restricted devices
  • after driver or system updates.
Start here
Before changing any settings:
  • Make sure your laptop is connected to a power source.
  • Restart the Movavi program.

If performance is still slow, continue below.
Recommended method (Windows 10 / 11)
This is the most reliable and up-to-date way to assign a GPU.

Step 1: Open Windows Graphics Settings
  1. Open Windows Settings
  2. Go to System → Display
  3. Scroll down and click Graphics

Step 2: Add Movavi Program
  1. Under Custom options for apps, choose Desktop app
  2. Click Browse and proceed to the program’s installation folder. By default the program folder will be located in C:/%USERNAME%/Appdata/Roaming
  3. Within that folder, pick the Movavi executable, for example:
  • videoeditor.exe
  • videosuite.exe
4. Click Add

Step 3: Set High Performance GPU
  1. Click the added Movavi app
  2. Select Options
  3. Choose High performance
  4. Click Save

Restart the Movavi program and check performance.

NVIDIA
Official guide

In general, you need to:
  • Open NVIDIA Control Panel
  • Go to Manage 3D settings → Program Settings
  • Add the Movavi executable
  • Select High-performance NVIDIA processor
AMD
Official guide:

In general, you need to:
  • Open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition
  • Go to Graphics / Switchable Graphics
  • Add Movavi
  • Set it to High performance
Important notes
  • Make sure your laptop is plugged into power – battery mode may limit GPU usage.
  • If one GPU is disabled in BIOS, switching may not be possible.
  • Some corporate laptops restrict GPU switching via system policies.

Some videos encoded with HEVC (H.265) may play back slowly or lag, even when the correct GPU is selected.
This can happen if:
  • your graphics adapter does not support HEVC hardware decoding, or
  • system-level HEVC support is missing.

What you can do
  • Convert the video to H.264 (MP4) and test playback again.
  • Check whether other H.264 videos play smoothly in the program.

If only HEVC files lag while other formats work normally, the issue is related to HEVC decoding rather than GPU selection.

If performance is still poor
If Movavi still:
  • lags,
  • freezes,
  • crashes,
  • shows visual artifacts,
then the issue may be related to:
When to contact Movavi Customer Service
Contact Movavi Customer Service if the issue persists after completing all steps above.

Include:
  • whether the program is assigned to the high-performance GPU
  • whether HEVC files are involved
  • which video formats lag
  • log files collected using the Collect Log Files for Support article.
